Taliouine Saffron (1g)
Every autumn, the crocuses of Taliouine bloom at dawn and wither before noon. Pickers have only a few hours to hand-harvest these purple flowers and extract their three precious red stigmas. It is the most expensive spice in the world.
The Story
Taliouine, perched at 1,800 meters in the Anti-Atlas mountains, is the Moroccan capital of saffron. Berber families have been cultivating Crocus sativus there since the 10th century. Each flower yields only three stigmas, harvested by hand one by one. It takes 150,000 flowers to obtain a single kilogram of saffron. This is the price of excellence.
